Sunga Mojo, a beautiful life. That’s what you get at the campground and accommodation called Sunga Mojo.

Imagine parking up right next to the beach and pitching your tent underneath an ancient fig tree.

Bamboo, mango, and a variety of other native trees grow side by side lush, leafy scrubs.

A well-maintained garden included soft grass and braai areas at each camp spot. Not too bad, not too bad at all.

There is a very chilled atmosphere around as printed onto the camp kitchen wall.

I hadn’t seen any frogs but it felt like being in a miniature jungle.

A perfect place to relax for a few days. And that’s exactly what I did.

I was still up very early to capture the scenes in and around at the golden hour.

The beach combined large granite boulders into a mini headland which was an excellent spot to set Osmo up for some early morning timelapsing. A few trees found a route through solid rocks and established themselves nicely on the water’s edge. Most trees were covered in greens and with spring in the air, flowers and fruits were plentiful. Most trees.

But not this one who captured my imagination profoundly.

A ghostly statue cemented on the last boulder towards the sea. Could this be a Christmas Tree?

Lid up by the fiery colors of the early morning sun? The sunlight didn’t appear straight over the horizon as hoped for, but the calm waters reflected nicely into a spectacular scenery.

Water levels here were much higher than some years ago which is most likely the reason for this barron appearance.

Photos taken from the sunny side of the spectrum showed a clear view of the lake’s waters. The rocky road extended into the clear waters of Lake Malawi.

Granite boulders are a perfect hiding and breeding area for smaller lake creatures.

A German couple from Düsseldorf had stayed here two nights before already. ‘My dad and his parents were from Düsseldorf’ isn’t exactly what they expected to hear when I introduced myself later, sitting at the open fire. The stars were out and a half-moon reflected nicely over calm water, listening to the crackling sounds of the fire.

Life is good. Sunga Mojo.

This is the perfect spot for ‘self-catering’ camping for travelers. I doubt you will find a better camp in the Nkhata Bay Area and highly recommend a visit. Cabins and tented accommodation are also available if you prefer 5 stars to a million.

Nkhata Bay lies 20 kilometers north and is a buzzing sea-side town. This area is a very popular destination for tourists and locals. There are favored accommodations like the Butterfly Space Lodge, where I stayed 6 years ago. I experienced again that the traveling atmosphere altered into a computing way of life.

Barmaid Donna took me along on a hike up to mountainous villages outside the Bay Area.

The local kids were laughing at my ear-stud in my left ear. ‘He is a girl”.

Two ancient trees stood side by side like twins around a village meeting area. Donna stepped into a rusty nail in the middle of the track out of nowhere. I wonder how many punctures and wounds this rusted object has caused and no one bothered to remove it before I did.

Donna needed a tetanus injection at the local hospital.
