There are a few crazy things to mention about Family Adendorff as Pieter suggested the title for this post.

Mostly that they put up with me for such a long time and always welcome me to their home.

Ruhan is a proud farmer.

His cattle is his pride and joy.

Enjoy. So do Ozzie and Jackels like a hyrax in the sun.

But what exactly is crazy? A little crazy goes a long way. I like being crazy. Crazy is as crazy does. It’s one of the nicer ways to describe my character. And that of my friends.

That’s why I found that this family, and many others I met, aren’t so crazy.

We are on the same level.

We have loadsa fun, good food, and plenty of laughter. Brannewein and Coke were usually shared with neighbouring visitors.

Unless it’s Ruhan’s favorite!
Coffee, milk first.

One factor is for sure. You need to be crazy to survive in this crazy country.

The many stories I had been told on how and why this country is led to ruin are simply mind-boggling. The incompetence and arrogance of the minority, that rules such a beautiful land is simply crazy. Yet, they get revoked for next term by promises of a new T-shirt and free electricity, freshly tapped from the nearby power poles. Power to the people.

The minimum wage is 30 Rand per hour, around 3 Dollars Australian. By law, one is not allowed to pay more than others will hear about it and it will create chaos.
30 locomotives, ordered from China, worth millions, are rusting and rotting in Durban’s Port because they don’t fit on the South African railway system.
It’s quite common for schools to go up in flames to demand more schools and a better education system?
Common Sense has fled the country as quickly as it could.

It is no wonder that people need to be crazy to survive. I wouldn’t be able to see the end of this tunnel.

However, a crazy crusade through Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, and Botswana started and ended right here on the farm in Ingogo.
How is this for a crazy coincidence? I mentioned a few times that I had a deadline to return.

In fact, it was a lifeline. Captain Pieter’s birthday is on December 14th. He turns 60 this year which is a good enough reason to return punctually. A Braai like this is not to be missed. He can now apply for a seniors card at ‘Spurs’ just as well.
That’s not all.
His lovely wife, Mariette, has her birthday a day later on December 15th. She is still one year shy of the big O.

And just when you think ‘how crazy is that?’ Kuifie jumps in and turns 57 on December 16th.

It is no wonder that we all get on so well. No ‘ifs’ and no ‘buts’! Mutual acceptance and respect. What you see is what you get. And we all have friends born before and after these dates. Imagine celebrating for a week together. Sagos rule.

So, there you have it. There is no logic, there is no sense and there are no rules about being crazy.

If everyone were a little crazy and accepted the fact that every crazy action leads to a crazy reaction, we would be in a happier, but crazy place.

One fact is for sure.
Zimba and Kuifie’s adventures wouldn’t be as crazy uplifting and sincere without my friends and family Adendorff.
Thank you all
