I jumped on the bus again, this time I was aiming for ‘Troix Mamelles’. 

This peak is situated in the middle of the island and was supposed to have splendid views over to the west coast and inland towards the other side of the coast. Another hike, climbing mountains, splendid views? Sounds like my kind of thing.

I changed buses a few times and walked the rest to the start of the trail . I still am surprised about the amount of rubbish covering streets, parks and streams. Being a fairly rich island, one would think that wasn’t the case. The facts speak differently.

Hiking through flowering cane fields again, I could spot the mountain peak I am eager to climb.

This track was a lot different to the one at Tamarin Falls. No creeks or water anywhere near, it was dry as could be. The track itself led up the rocky slopes. Easy to navigate,but loose gravel and rocks were tricky to negotiate at times.

I got to the mountain top fairly quick and enjoyed the view. To the South West was ‘Black River National Park’ with its Forrest and gorges. 

Le Morne Brabant, another volcanic peak, was easily recognized on the very south western corner. Looking inland towards the mountains east, I was surprised on how little Forrest was left. 

It was either rural suburbia or used for agriculture. If people could, they sure would harvest the mountain slopes as well. I was all by myself again. I guess most tourists spend their holidays in or around the resorts? That’s fine by me though. It was tranquil and peaceful. I even had some time for a few self monitored photos, not quite selfie style. 

I was up for another adventure and took the bus to Tamarin village, situated on Mauritius west coast. Another tourist hotspot, it became obvious quickly.

My destination was Tamarin Mountain, which lies just outside of the village. It was hard to find the starting point of the track, due to lack of signs on mostly private property. Anyhow, no one around, no one to stop me. Similar to my last Mountain track, this trail was dry, rocky and sandy too. Lucky I took enough water.

I found a lot of colourful empty snail shells on this track. They must be some sort of food source for some mammals or birds.

A young couple arrived after a while who had, similar to me, climbed and hiked a few tracks on the island. Good to know others enjoy the splendid outdoors here.

We had a chat and enjoyed our view.
